The duels proceed until Ranaldo captures Trufaldino.

Ranaldo did not see him run
or surely he'd have not escaped:
He'd have been caught by Rabican.
but in the battle's heat, I say,
the prince had not seen Trufaldino
fleeing until he'd reached the gates.
He turned to those he fought and said
furiously, "That traitor fled!

"Listen to what I have to say,
and do exactly as you're told
If you don't want to die at once!
I don't care who you are: I'll kill you
unless you promise me you'll bring
that villain to the field tomorrow.
I want this battle we've begun
to be concluded for today.

"All of you here who have defended
your glorious King Trufaldino,
when the sun shines tomorrow, at
firstlight, report back to the field.
We will complete our battle, and
that foul assassin will be killed,
or, truly, I myself will die
if God confuses wrong and right."
